The Giant’s ascent of the Tourmalet – Souvenir Laurent Fignon

It became the major event of the beginning of the cycling season and cycle tourism for all climbers tempted by this extraordinary ascent, a rich century-old history. This festive and friendly hiking is an invitation to climb the famous Tourmalet pass to accompany up to its summer home at 2115 m, the monumental sculpture which symbolizes the first passage of the Tour de France on July 21st, 1910. This sculpture, called Octave, has its winter quarters in the Carré Py’ Hôtel*** Bagnères de Bigorre before joining the Tourmalet pass the first Saturday of June to the rhythm of the bandas.

In teams or solo, many French and foreign cyclists come every year in the Pyrenees to go over the prestigious passes of the Tour de France. The Col du Tourmalet for example, followed by his vertiginous descent towards the Carré Py ‘Hôtel *** Bagnères de Bigorre, still hanging in the sky dreams of cyclists. Without forgetting the Col d’Aspin and the Hourquette d’Ancizan…

Output to the half-day tour for a day or more: in every case, the ascents and descents are always different and the panoramas, ceaselessly renewed, always spectacular. Ride a mountain is not reserved for champions. With a little training, the warned cyclists can dash there.

The Cyclosportive the Pyrenean

This event was born on the initiative of the cities of Bagneres de Bigorre, Argelès-Gazost and Saint Lary Soulan. The primary objective is to offer cyclists of all levels (of the most pulled to the amateurs of cycle hikes) the ability of confronting in passes made famous by the legendary stages of the Tour de France. Each year, about a thousand cyclists, from any horizons (more than ten nationalities), make an appointment in the High Pyrenees to live their passion in the footsteps of the greatest champions that made the legend of these places.
